Hey everyone! Today I’m sharing this lovely free crochet sunflower keychain pattern.

Life has been pretty busy lately. Chloe is 10 months old and very mobile, so she’s been wearing us out these last few weeks.. but I’ve been trying to make time to work on my crochet projects here and there. Right now I’m in the middle of this little triceratops plushie that I meant to give to my little sister as a (now late) birthday present. I plan to post the finished result on my social media pages when I get done so be on the lookout!

This little sunflower pattern has been sitting in my drafts for quite awhile now, just waiting to see the light of day. I’m so excited to finally share it with you all!!

I do consider this to be a quick, easy, beginner-friendly pattern, but let me know your thoughts if you try it.

All right, let’s get into it!

Materials:

Less than 1 skein worsted weight cotton yarn in yellow–I used maybe 25 yards (I like Lily Sugar ‘N Cream yarn)

Less than 1 skein worsted weight cotton yarn in green–I used maybe 10 yards (I used I Love This Cotton yarn)

Less than 1 skein worsted weight cotton yarn in brown–I used maybe 20 yards (I used Lily Sugar ‘N Cream yarn)

4.5mm crochet hook (you can use a smaller hook if you prefer your keychain to be smaller–mine is from this Yarniss hook set)

Stitch marker

Yarn needle

Keychain (I buy these in packs of 100 and it’s a lot cheaper that way)

Finished measurements:

Mine turned out 5″ long counting the keychain and 4.5″ wide counting the leaf.

Pattern notes:

-Pattern is worked in continuous rounds without joining so you may find it helpful to place a marker in the first stitch of every round.

-Cotton yarn works best because your stitches will work up much tighter and sturdier but you can use any yarn that you wish! I like I Love This Cotton and Lily Sugar ‘N Cream.

Pattern

Sunflower: (in brown yarn)

Round 1: Ch 1, 6sc in magic ring (6)

Round 2: Inc in each st around (12)

Round 3: *1 sc, inc* around (18)

Round 4: *2 sc, inc* around (24)

Fasten off and join yellow yarn in any st.

Round 5: In the same st you joined in, sc, hdc, ch 2 and sl st in second chain from hook, working again in the same st you joined in, hdc, sc, sk next st and make a sl st. *sc, hdc, ch 2 and sl st in second ch from hook, working again in the same st you made a sl st in, hdc, sc, sk next st and make a sl st* repeat all around until you have a total of 12 petals.

Fasten off.

Leaf: (in green yarn)

Round 1: Ch 11, sc in the second ch from hook, hdc, dc, 4 tc, dc, hdc, sc, now working on the other side of the chain, sc, hdc, dc, 4 tc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st to first st (20)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

Attach the keychain to the top of any petal. I like to just wrap the yarn around the ring a couple of times then sew it to the stitch.

Attach the leaf to the keychain. I attached the leaf to a spare jump ring using the same method then attached that ring to the keychain, but you can just attach the leaf to the same ring you attached the petal to.

Weave in ends.
